10 Michigan Lawmakers Face Recall Threats

(wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Anti-tax activists are starting recall
efforts against ten state lawmakers who voted to raise taxes.
Recall paperwork is expected to be filed later this afternoon
against Democratic Representative Steve Bieda of Warren.
Within days, activists say recall campaigns will be mounted
against five Republicans and five Democrats altogether.
Leon Drolet of the Michigan Taxpayers Alliance says the
legislators hurt Michigan's economy by backing higher taxes.
The Legislature and Governor Granholm last week agreed to raise
Michigan's income tax and expand the sales tax to more services to
help close a deficit in the state budget.
It will be tough to recall legislators.
Thousands of petition signatures are needed to initiate recall
elections.
