Gawking Causes Crash
says an 80-year-old man has been killed in a crash after stopping
alongside a road to view the scene of a natural gas pipeline
explosion.
Deputies say Jerome Weber of Dorr was making a U-turn yesterday
morning after pulling back onto a Salem Township road when his
vehicle was hit broadside by a pickup truck.
Both Weber and his 80-year-old wife Irma were ejected from their
vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Irma Weber is listed in serious condition at a Grand Rapids
hospital.
The other driver wasn't hurt.
Monday's pipeline explosion sent flames 100 feet into the air,
scorching grass and trees, but no injuries were reported.
