CRASH TESTS
(2007-10-11)
(wgvu) - AN INSURANCE INDUSTRY STUDY OUT TODAY SAYS
THAT SOME SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES DON'T PROVIDE THE PROTECTION IN A
SIDE CRASH THAT ONE MIGHT EXPECT FROM SUCH LARGE VEHICLES.
THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY GAVE MARGINAL SCORES
IN SIDE-IMPACT TESTS OF FOUR 2008 MODELS -- ALL LACKING SIDE AIR
BAGS.
THEY ARE THE CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, NISSAN
PATHFINDER AND NISSAN XTERRA.
SIMILAR TESTS GAVE TOP MARKS TO VEHICLES WITH SIDE AIR BAGS --
THE TOYOTA 4RUNNER, PATHFINDER AND XTERRA MODELS WITH THE BAGS AS
AN OPTION.
AN OFFICIAL WITH THE GROUP SAYS THE TESTS SHOW THAT BY ITSELF,
RIDING HIGHER OFF THE ROAD DOESN'T DO AS MUCH GOOD AS PEOPLE THINK.
