(wgvu) - THE UNITED AUTO WORKERS IS TABULATING
RESULTS OF A RATIFICATION VOTE ON A TENTATIVE FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT
WITH GENERAL MOTORS.
THE UNION REPRESENTS 74,000 HOURLY WORKERS AT THE AUTOMAKER.
THE UAW REACHED A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH GM AFTER A TWO-DAY
STRIKE.
YESTERDAY, THE LOCAL REPRESENTING 1,300 WORKERS AT AN ASSEMBLY
PLANT IN MARION, INDIANA, SAID THAT ITS MEMBERS NARROWLY REJECTED
THE DEAL, WITH 51 PERCENT SAYING NO.
THE PLANT IS ONE OF 15 THAT GM SAYS IT WILL CONSIDER SHUTTING
DOWN AFTER 2011.
