GOP Debate
(wgvu) - DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - All eyes are on newcomer Fred Thompson as
Republican presidential candidates prepare this afternoon for their
sixth major debate of the 2008 campaign.
The Dearborn debate is expected to focus on economic issues, but
most of the attention is on the veteran actor and former Tennessee
senator. Thompson is making his debut debate appearance a month
after becoming a full-fledged candidate.
He has maintained a competitive position in national polls and
has raised 12 million dollars over four months.
The debate likely will see sparks fly between former New York
Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. The
two have increasingly squared off in recent days over their records
on taxes and spending.
