21 PERCENT IN SEPTEMBER AS THE AUTOMAKER FELL BEHIND TOYOTA FOR THE
NO. 2 SPOT IN THE AMERICAN MARKET.
FORD BLAMES ITS DECLINE ON A 62 PERCENT CUT IN LESS-PROFITABLE
FLEET SALES.
FORD'S CAR SALES DROPPED 39 PERCENT COMPARED WITH LAST
SEPTEMBER, WHILE ITS TRUCK SALES FELL 5 PERCENT.
TOP-SELLER GENERAL MOTORS SAYS ITS TOTAL U.S. CAR AND TRUCK
SALES WERE BASICALLY UNCHANGED, WHILE CHRYSLER SALES FELL 5
PERCENT.
AMONG JAPANESE AUTOMAKERS, TOYOTA'S U.S. SALES FELL 4 PERCENT,
HONDA'S ROSE 9 PERCENT, AND NISSAN'S ROSE 7 PERCENT.
AUTODATA REPORTS THAT OVERALL U.S. SALES WERE DOWN 3 PERCENT
FROM LAST SEPTEMBER.
