Deer Forecast
... and prospects for the fall hunt are good across much of the
state.
That's according to the Department of Natural Resources, which
released its annual deer hunting forecast in Lansing today.
More than half the deer harvested are expected to be in the
southern part of the state.
Some parts of the Upper Peninsula should do better this year
because mild weather last winter left the herd in good shape.
Biologists estimate the herd at 1.6 million ... slightly higher
than last year.
About 450,000 deer are expected to be killed during the hunt,
which gets under way with archery season Oct. 1. Firearm season is
from Nov. 15 through Nov. 30.
