deadline if contract talks with General Motors don't accelerate.
UAW President Ron Gettelfinger and his bargaining team made that
statement to local union leaders in a letter last night.
GM workers could strike at any time because they have been
extending their contract on an hour-by-hour basis.
Bargainers for both sides negotiated from midmorning until this
evening before recessing for the night.
The Associated Press has obtained the letter which says progress
has been made "in many areas of the discussions with GM but there
are several major issues separating the parties that must be
resolved."
GM spokesman Tom Wickham would not comment on the UAW letter.
