ARETHA SINGS AT KING MEMORIAL
(2007-09-14)
(wgvu) - NEW YORK (AP) - Detroit's own Aretha Franklin will join Stevie
Wonder and other stars in concert to raise money for a Martin
Luther King Jr. national memorial.
They will participate Tuesday in "The Dream" concert at Radio
City Music Hall in New York. About 82 million dollars has been
raised, so far. Organizers hope the concert will help get them
closer to their 100 million dollar goal.
The three-story memorial is expected to be erected by 2009 on
the National Mall in Washington, D.C. A sculptor already has been
selected.
Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, Usher, Garth Brooks and Carlos
Santana are some of the other artists expected to perform in the
concert.
