(wgvu) - THOUSANDS OF VOLUNTEERS HAVE STARTED THE
STATE'S FINAL HIGHWAY CLEANUP OF 2007.
THE MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION EXPECTS ABOUT 27,000
PEOPLE TO COLLECT AN ESTIMATED 20,000 BAGS OF TRASH THROUGH SEPT.

THE EFFORT IS THE THIRD ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY CLEANUP OF 2007. ABOUT
6,000 MILES OF STATE HIGHWAYS AND ROADS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED BY GROUPS
OF VOLUNTEERS.
A STATE TRANSPORTATION SPOKESWOMAN SAYS THE CLEANUP SAVES
MICHIGAN ABOUT ONE MILLION DOLLARS EACH YEAR.
