PRIMARY SCRAMBLE
(2007-09-07)
(wgvu) -
PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY CALENDAR IS IN CHAOS AND CONGRESS NEEDS TO
OVERHAUL THE NOMINATING SYSTEM.
THE ROYAL OAK DEMOCRAT AND FLORIDA SENATOR BILL NELSON ARE
PROPOSING THE CREATION OF SIX PRIMARY DATES BETWEEN MARCH AND JUNE
FOR SIX AREAS OF THE COUNTRY.
THE PLAN WOULD BYPASS THE TRADITIONAL ROLE PLAYED BY IOWA AND
NEW HAMPSHIRE.
A LOTTERY WOULD DETERMINE THE ORDER OF THE PRIMARIES, WHICH
WOULD ROTATE EVERY FOUR YEARS.
THE CHANGES COULD OCCUR AS EARLY AS 2012.
MICHIGAN HAS MOVED ITS PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY UP TO JAN. 15, WHILE
FLORIDA HAS SET A JAN. 29 PRIMARY DATE.
