Holland State Park dune boardwalk plan at risk
(2007-09-05)
(wgvu) - PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Ottawa County wants to build a
boardwalk to help prevent the further erosion of a big dune at
Holland State Park.
The county even got help from the Michigan Department of Natural
Resources when applying for a $280,000 grant for the project.
But DNR also has listed for possible sale a state-owned lot that
would provide public access to the boardwalk planned for the Mount
Pisgah dune.
The county hopes it's a mistake.
The DNR says the county's plans could keep the parcel from being
sold.
A meeting is set for Tuesday at another park - Hoffmaster State
Park near Norton Shores - to gather public comment on the possible
sale of the lot and two other parcels near Holland State Park.
