Boy's rescuer says he followed faint cry after Lake Erie crash
(wgvu) - KELLEYS ISLAND, Ohio (AP) - The man who rescued a 7-year-old
plane crash victim out of Lake Erie says he heard a faint cry and
rowed his boat to where it was coming from.
Chuck Herndon of Kelleys Island (Ohio) says he went out to help
last night after he saw the small, single-engine Cessna plane go
down following takeoff from the island's airport. Herndon says the
boy told him two other family members were killed.
Crews continue to look for the boy's 46-year-old father and
9-year-old brother. The Coast Guard says they were all from Lima
(LY'-muh) in western Ohio.
The search operation in the lake is using several boats, a
helicopter and divers.
The rescued child is in fair condition at a hospital in Toledo
