FOREST FIRES-MICHIGAN

(wgvu) - PROPERTY OWNERS AND GUESTS HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO RETURN AROUND PART OF THE FOREST FIRE-DAMAGED REGION OF
THE UPPER PENINSULA.
STATE OFFICIALS SAID THE 18,000-ACRE FIRE IN THE MOSTLY REMOTE
REGION IS NOW ABOUT 95-PERCENT CONTAINED.
THE FIRE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE STARTED WITH A LIGHTNING STRIKE
EARLIER THIS MONTH.
THE COST OF FIGHTING THE BLAZE HAS TOPPED 6 MILLION DOLLARS.
SOME OF THE PEOPLE EVACUATED BECAUSE OF THE LUCE COUNTY FIRE ARE
BEING PERMITTED TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES. NO ONE IS BEING ALLOWED
IN THE FIRE AREA.
