GRANHOLM-ENERGY
(2007-08-29)
(wgvu) - GOVERNOR GRANHOLM SAYS THE 4 MILLION TONS
OF TRASH COMING IN FROM CANADA EACH YEAR COULD BE A SOURCE OF
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY.
THE GOVERNOR IS FRESH OFF A TRADE TRIP TO SWEDEN AND GERMANY AND
SAYS SWEDEN CONVERTS ALMOST ALL ITS WASTE TO ENERGY FOR HEATING ITS
HOMES AND POWERING ITS CARS.
SHE SAYS FOLLOWING THAT EXAMPLE COULD TURN SOMETHING THAT HAS
BEEN A NEGATIVE FOR MICHIGAN INTO A POSITIVE.
THE GOVERNOR ALSO SAYS THE STATE WILL HOST A MICHIGAN-SWEDEN
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SUMMIT IN EARLY 2008.
SHE SAYS SWEDEN CAN PROVIDE EXAMPLES FOR MICHIGAN ON HOW TO
CAPTURE ENERGY FROM ITS FOREST PRODUCTS, WIND POWER, WATERWAYS AND
LANDFILLS.
