Obesity Rankings
(2007-08-27)
(wgvu) -
WASHINGTON (AP) - America's expanding waistline isn't taking a
break.
Obesity rates continued their slow march upward in 31 states
last year. No single state shed any of its collective extra pounds.
Mississippi now has the questionable bragging rights as the
first to pass the 30 percent mark for adults considered to be
obese. West Virginia and Alabama are close behind.
Michigan tied Indiana for ninth place at 26.8 percent.
The rankings, compiled by the Trust for America's Health, say
Colorado continued to top the charts as the slimmest state in the
country. The obesity rate is projected at about 18 percent.
