U.P. Forest Fire Still Raging
Sleeper Lake wildfire in the Upper Peninsula that rekindled as the
winds picked up.
Gusts up to 25 miles per hour pushed the Luce County fire toward
the northwest yesterday.
Crews rushed to prevent the fire from escaping a perimeter
that's been established. It's about 67 percent contained.
Fewer than 25 people had to leave home because of the latest
spread in the fire.
An air tanker arrived from Minnesota last night and is helping
douse the flames today.
About 250 people are fighting the Sleeper Lake fire, which has
burned more than 18,200 acres ... or about 28 square miles.
Much of the state is under an outdoor burning ban.
