FOREST FIRES-MICHIGAN

(wgvu) - WINDS CONTINUE TO MAKE WORK DIFFICULT FOR
CREWS FIGHTING AN UPPER PENINSULA FOREST FIRE.
BUT A STATE OFFICIAL SAYS THAT PROGRESS CONTINUES TO BE MADE IN
CONTAINING THE BLAZE.
SCOTT HEATHER IS FIRE SUPERVISOR FOR THE MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL RESOURCES. HE SAYS HE FEELS -- QUOTE -- "WE HAVE TURNED
THE CORNER ON THIS FIRE" -- UNQUOTE.
THE FIRE HAS BURNED 18,020 ACRES, OR ABOUT 28 SQUARE MILES, AND
CREWS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING THE BLAZE IN LUCE COUNTY SINCE EARLY
AUGUST. THE DNR SAYS AT LATEST ESTIMATE THE FIRE IS 65 PERCENT
CONTAINED.
A LIGHTNING STRIKE IS SUSPECTED OF STARTING THE WILDFIRE AUGUST
SECOND.
