(wgvu) - - NORTHWEST AIRLINES SAYS IT PLANS TO LAUNCH
ITS NEW EMBRAER 175 REGIONAL JETS NEXT TUESDAY WITH A
FLIGHT FROM MINNEAPOLIS TO OMAHA.
THE 76-SEAT PLANES WILL BE FLOWN BY NORTHWEST'S NEW REGIONAL
SUBSIDIARY, COMPASS AIRLINES. COMPASS WILL BEGIN WITH TWO OF THE
JETS AND WILL ADD ABOUT TWO EACH MONTH THROUGH THE END OF NEXT
YEAR, WHEN IT WILL FLY 36.
NORTHWEST IS MICHIGAN'S LARGEST PASSENGER AIR CARRIER.
THE NEW PLANES INCLUDE LEATHER FIRST-CLASS SEATS AND ENOUGH ROOM
FOR FULL-SIZE CARRY-ON BAGS -- A RARITY ON A REGIONAL JET.
COMPASS, MESABA AVIATION AND PINNACLE AIRLINES ALL FLY UNDER THE
NORTHWEST AIRLINK NAME. THE FLIGHTS ARE SOLD AND SCHEDULED BY
NORTHWEST AND FLOWN ON PLANES THAT NORTHWEST PROVIDES.
