ARAB-AMERICAN SOCIAL SERVICES CENTER WAS PICKED TODAY TO LEAD THE
STATE'S DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES.
ISMAEL AHMED IS CO-FOUNDER OF THE ARAB COMMUNITY CENTER FOR
ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL SERVICES.
HE WAS PICKED FOR THE STATE JOB BY GOVERNOR JENNIFER GRANHOLM.
AHMED WOULD REPLACE MARIANNE UDOW, WHO LEAVES STATE GOVERNMENT
AT THE END OF THE MONTH TO LEAD A JOINT VENTURE BETWEEN BLUE CROSS
BLUE SHIELD OF MICHIGAN AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN HEALTH
SYSTEM.
THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES HANDLES SEVERAL STATE PROGRAMS
INCLUDING WELFARE, FOSTER CARE AND CHILD CARE.
THE APPOINTMENT TAKES EFFECT UNLESS THE STATE SENATE REJECTS IT.
