(wgvu) - A FIRE IN A REMOTE BACKWOODS AREA OF THE
EASTERN UPPER PENINSULA HAS GROWN TO 17,000 ACRES.
FIREFIGHTERS GOT SOME HELP TUESDAY EVENING WHEN RAIN FELL FOR ABOUT AN
HOUR, INTERRUPTING A LONG DRY SPELL.
AUTHORITIES EVACUATED ABOUT 200 PEOPLE LIVING NEAR PINE STUMP
JUNCTION.
NO INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED AND NO STRUCTURES DAMAGED.
STATE OFFICIALS SAY LIGHTNING MAY HAVE STARTED THE FIRE THURSDAY
IN THE SLEEPER LAKE AREA OF LUCE COUNTY NEAR NEWBERRY.
