Chrysler Board
(2007-08-06)
(wgvu) - AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - The new leader of Chrysler says he's
ready to help the company move forward with speed and renewed
focus.
Bob Nardelli left Home Depot in January after a shareholder
rebellion over his outsized pay.
He has been appointed to head up Chrysler and replace Tom
LaSorda.
LaSorda is taking the number-two slot at the automaker as its
president and vice chairman.
He and Nardelli shared a handshake and posed for pictures during
a celebratory event today at Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn
Hills.
LaSorda says Nardelli is a strong manager who has helped
companies grow and that he's happy to be working with Nardelli.
Some wonder what effect Nardelli's hiring will have on ongoing
contract talks with the United Auto Workers.
But he says union President Ron Gettelfinger already has been
contacted about the executive shake-up.
