MANIOUS HOMOCIDE

(wgvu) - A 21-YEAR-OLD MAN WAS CHARGED TODAY WITH AN OPEN COUNT OF MURDER IN THE KILLING OF VICTOR MANIOUS, THE 62-YEAR-OLD GAINES TOWNSHIP MAN FOUND DEAD IN HIS CAR TRUNK MONDAY. THE GRAND RAPIDS PRESS REPORTS STEVEN WILLIS SCARBOROUGH HAD FLED TO HOUSTON WHERE HE WAS ARRESTED BY A FUGITIVE TEAM, GRAND RAPIDS POLICE SAID.
KENT COUNTY PROSECUTORS CHARGED SCARBOROUGH ON WEDNESDAY WITH STEALING/RETAINING A CREDIT CARD WITHOUT CONSENT, THEN TODAY ADDED THE CHARGE OF OPEN MURDER, POLICE SAID IN A STATEMENT.
MANIOUS, A LAY LEADER OF THE COPTIC ORTHODOX CHURCH IN GRAND RAPIDS, WAS FOUND DEAD IN THE TRUNK OF HIS 1996 TOYOTA CAMRY PARKED THE WRONG WAY ON OTTAWA AVENUE NW BETWEEN LYON AND PEARL STREETS. THE CAR HAD BEEN THERE SINCE SATURDAY.
THE VICTIM'S WIFE HAD REPORTED HIM MISSING. AFTER CONTACTING THE CITY, THE FAMILY DISCOVERED THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN TICKETED ON OTTAWA. THE FAMILY WENT THERE, AND CONTACTED POLICE, WHO FOUND THE VICTIM'S BODY IN THE TRUCK. HE DIED OF BLUNT-FORCE TRAUMA.
