(2007-08-02)

NEW YORK STATE PROBE OF RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ATHLETIC DEPARTMENTS
AT 39 UNIVERSITIES AND A STUDENT LOAN PROVIDER.
NEW YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL ANDREW CUOMO IS ASKING FOR DOCUMENTS

AND WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY. CUOMO IS INVESTIGATING WHETHER ATHLETIC
DEPARTMENTS PROMOTED THE LOANS OF STUDENT FINANCIAL SERVICES TO
STUDENTS IN EXCHANGE FOR KICKBACKS.
THE LOAN COMPANY OPERATES AS UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL SERVICES.
CUOMO IS ALSO LOOKING AT WHETHER TEAMS WERE MARKETED TO SUGGEST
THE COMPANY WAS THE COLLEGE'S PREFERRED LENDER.
CUOMO BEGAN THE INVESTIGATION AS PART OF HIS NATIONAL PROBE OF
