WAYNE STATE-TUITION
(2007-07-26)
(wgvu) - WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY IN DETROIT...THE LATEST MICHIGAN COLLEGE TO RAISE **TUITION---WHICH WILL JUMP BY NEARLY 13 PERCENT THIS FALL, ADDING ABOUT
12-HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A FULL-TIME FRESHMEN.
THE UNIVERSITY'S GOVERNING BOARD HAS ALSO APPROVED A 13-DOLLAR PER-CREDIT-HOUR CONTINGENCY FEE THAT COULD ADD ANOTHER $200.
OFFICIALS SAY THE FEE MAY BE DROPPED IN THE SPRING SEMESTER DEPENDING ON WHAT HAPPENS WITH AID FROM THE STATE.
THE STATE IS WITHHOLDING PAYMENTS TO MICHIGAN'S 15 PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES THIS SUMMER.
W-S-U OFFICIALS SAY THE TUITION HIKE WAS THEIR ONLY REASONABLE ALTERNATIVE. THEY SAY THE STATE'S UNWILLINGNESS TO SUPPORT HIGHER EDUCATION HAS FORCED THEM TO FIND OTHER WAYS TO MAINTAIN THE QUALITY OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS.
