(wgvu) - EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The governing board at Michigan State
University today raised tuition for next fall by almost 10 percent.
It would add almost 800 dollars to the annual tuition bill for
freshmen and sophomores.
But the proposal passed unanimously includes some flexibility.
The tuition increase would start at 9-point-6 percent. But it
could be adjusted up or down depending on how much state aid is
delivered in the fiscal year that starts in October.
Several public Michigan universities will raise tuition this
Taxpayer aid to Michigan's public universities has declined the
past few years. Tuition increases are one of the ways schools make
up the difference for the decline in state aid.
Some of Michigan State's trustees blamed inactivity by state
lawmakers for today's tuition increase.
