PLANE CRASH SEARCH
(2007-07-11)
(wgvu) - HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - Valerie van Heest is expecting better luck
next year.
The Holland woman is an expert diver whose spare time is often
spent searching Lake Michigan for shipwrecks.
Much of her focus these days is aimed at finding the spot in the
lake where a Northwest Airlines plane went down in 1950, killing
all 58 people on board.
Van Heest and her group -- Michigan Shipwreck Research
Associates -- spent almost a month this past spring on their fourth
search for the crash site.
They didn't find the site while looking off the coast of South
Haven but the group plans to return there next spring for a fifth
search.
She hopes that some courtroom transcripts from an old liability
lawsuit against Northwest will help with the next search.
