(wgvu) - HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY MICHAEL CHERTOFF SAYS
IT'S PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT TO RESPECT THE CIVIL RIGHTS OF MUSLIM
AMERICANS AT A TIME WHEN U-S TROOPS ARE FIGHTING TERRORISM IN THE
MIDDLE EAST.
CHERTOFF SPOKE TONIGHT AT THE N-DOUBLE-A-C-P'S NATIONAL
CONVENTION IN DETROIT.
HE SAYS THAT MAKING MUSLIMS FEEL FULLY INCLUDED IN THE WORK AND
SPIRIT OF AMERICA IS PART OF MAKING THE NATION A BETTER PLACE, AND
IMPROVING U-S MILITARY EFFECTIVENESS.
CHERTOFF ALSO PRAISED THE PAST AND CURRENT WORK OF BLACK MEN AND
WOMEN IN ALL BRANCHES OF THE U-S MILITARY.
EARLIER TODAY, HE VISITED A SHIITE MOSQUE IN DEARBORN, A DETROIT
SUBURB WITH MANY ARAB-AMERICAN RESIDENTS.
