CHICKEN COOP FIRE

(wgvu) - - A FIRE AT AN ALLEGAN COUNTY FARM
KILLED ABOUT 90-THOUSAND BIRDS.
THE FIRE HAPPENED YESTERDAY IN OVERISEL TOWNSHIP. ABOUT 120
FIREFIGHTERS FROM 19 DEPARTMENTS RESPONDED TO THE BLAZE.
THEIR EFFORTS WERE HAMPERED BY WINDS GUSTING UP TO 40 MPH THAT
FANNED THE FLAMES. BUT THEY MANAGED TO KEEP THE FIRE FROM SPREADING
TO ADJACENT CHICKEN BARNS ONLY FEET FROM THE BURNING BUILDING.
FARM OWNER CAL SCHIPPER SAYS HE'S GRATEFUL THE FIRE DID NOT
SPREAD. HE SAYS THE BARN AND CHICKENS WERE INSURED.
ALSO YESTERDAY, THERE WAS A CHICKEN COOP FIRE IN OTTAWA COUNTY.
THAT FIRE WAS PUT OUT RELATIVELY QUICKLY.
DETAILS ON THE NUMBER OF BIRDS KILLED WEREN'T RELEASED.
