TROOPER KILLED

(wgvu) - - AUTHORITIES SAY A 21-YEAR-OLD NORTHERN
MICHIGAN MAN FIRED A SHOTGUN AND KILLED AN INDIANA STATE TROOPER,
THEN FATALLY SHOT HIMSELF.
IT HAPPENED THIS (THURSDAY) AFTERNOON ON U-S 24, ABOUT 40 MILES
SOUTHWEST OF FORT WAYNE.
AUTHORITIES IDENTIFY THE GUNMAN AS JOSEPH VULTAGGIO OF GAYLORD
IN NORTHERN LOWER MICHIGAN.
THEY SAY THAT 41-YEAR-OLD MASTER TROOPER DAVID RICH STOPPED TO
HELP WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A STRANDED MOTORIST.
THEY SAY THE KILLER WAS DRIVING A SPORT-UTILITY VEHICLE THAT HIS
FATHER HAD REPORTED STOLEN YESTERDAY.
RICH WAS AN 18-YEAR STATE POLICE VETERAN, WHO WAS MARRIED WITH A
SEVEN-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER AND TWIN THREE-YEAR-OLD SONS.
