Transformers and GM
(2007-07-02)
(wgvu) - General Motors hopes the popularity of the summer
flick Transformers revs up action in showrooms.
The Detroit automaker is spending millions to promote and market
its tie-ins with the movie which opens this week.
G-M hopes to draw in the 18-to-34 age set with the company's
presence in the film, accompanying toys and video games.
Camaro is mentioned a handful of times. Chevy, Pontiac, G-M-C
and Hummer logos also get screen time.
The G-M vehicles transform into Autobots -- heroic aliens
battling the evil Decepticons.
University of Illinois clinical marketing professor David
Koehler says product placement has never been so blatant, but the
potential to build global brand awareness could not have come at a
better time for G-M.
