BUSINESS TAX
(2007-06-29)
(wgvu) - - THE MICHIGAN LEGISLATURE HAS PASSED A KEY
BILL IN THE REPLACEMENT PLAN FOR MICHIGAN'S MAIN BUSINESS TAX,
WHICH BRINGS IN $1.9 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.
THE SENATE VOTED 32-TO-3 FOR THE MAIN BILL DETAILING THE NEW
MICHIGAN BUSINESS TAX.
THE HOUSE PASSED THE MAIN BILL BY A 75-TO-34 VOTE.
OTHER BILLS IN THE PACKAGE ALSO WERE PASSED.
THE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR AND LEGISLATIVE LEADERS STRUCK A DEAL ON
THE LONG-AWAITED REPLACEMENT TWO WEEKS AGO.
BUT LEGISLATION WAS LEFT TO BE DRAFTED, LEAVING A CHANCE FOR
BUSINESS SECTORS THAT COULD LOSE OUT UNDER THE PLAN TO VOICE
OPPOSITION.
THE SINGLE BUSINESS TAX EXPIRES AT YEAR'S END.
