BLOW COULD NOT ATTEND.
THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE
IS HOLDING A CEREMONIAL BURIAL FOR THE WORD AT THE GROUP'S NATIONAL
CONVENTION IN DETROIT NEXT MONTH.
THE CONVENTION RUNS JULY SEVENTH THROUGH 12TH.
SIXTY-THREE YEARS AGO, THE CIVIL RIGHTS GROUP CAME TO DETROIT
FOR A SYMBOLIC FUNERAL FOR THE SYSTEM OF RACIAL SEGREGATION AND
DISCRIMINATION KNOWN AS JIM CROW.
BLOW SAYS THAT BLACKS NEEDED TO STOP USING THE WORD SO THEY CAN
