CRUISE CRACKDOWN
(2007-06-25)
(wgvu) - POLICE IN ROYAL OAK HAVE A MESSAGE FOR
MOTORISTS -- DRIVE WOODWARD AVENUE IF YOU MUST, BUT DON'T CRUISE.
THE DETROIT SUBURB IS BISECTED BY WOODWARD AVENUE, SCENE OF THE
WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE. THE ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF CAR CULTURE
ATTRACTS TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF
SPECTATORS.
THIS YEAR'S DREAM CRUISE ISN'T UNTIL AUGUST 18TH. BUT ROYAL OAK
POLICE ALREADY HAVE BEEN TICKETING DRIVERS FOR DRAG RACING,
SQUEALING TIRES, HAVING LOUD MUFFLERS AND SO-CALLED UNSAFE STARTS
FROM RED LIGHTS.
DEPUTY CHIEF CHRIS JAHNKE WARNS THAT POLICE HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE
TOWARD IMPROPER DRIVING.
