Guy Vander Jagt
(VAN'-dur-jakt) has died. He was 75.
A longtime aide says Vander Jagt died today at a hospice in
Washington. He suffered from pancreatic cancer for about one and
a-half years.
Vander Jagt began his political career in 1964 as a state
senator, serving in the U-S House from 1966 to 1993. He was
chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee for 18
years during his tenure.
Vander Jagt gained national prominence when Ronald Reagan tapped
him to deliver the keynote address to the G-O-P convention in
Detroit in 1980.
