DEPUTY-DRUNKEN DRIVING

(wgvu) - A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR HAS BEEN REQUESTED IN
THE CASE OF A FORMER LIVINGSTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTY CHARGED
WITH DRUNKEN DRIVING.
RYAN VORHIES WAS ARRESTED JUNE EIGHTH AFTER AN ACCIDENT
FOLLOWING A GOLF OUTING.
ALTHOUGH THE CRASH WASN'T HIS FAULT, HOWELL POLICE OFFICERS
SUSPECTED VORHIES WAS INTOXICATED. A PRELIMINARY BREATH TEST
INDICATED HE HAD MORE THAN TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT OF ALCOHOL IN HIS
SYSTEM. HE WAS LATER FIRED BY THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, WHICH HE IS
CONTESTING.
THE LIVINGSTON COUNTY PROSECUTOR REQUESTED A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR
BECAUSE SEVERAL MEMBERS OF HIS OFFICE MAY BE CALLED AS WITNESSES IN
VORHIES' TRIAL. THEY ALONG WITH OTHER COURT PERSONNEL AND LAW
ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WERE AT THE GOLF OUTING.
