(wgvu) - - NORTHWEST AIRLINES IS UPGRADING ITS REGIONAL
JET FLEET, WITH THE FIRST OF ITS NEW JETS TO BEGIN HAULING
PASSENGERS TODAY. .
NORTHWEST IS ADDING 72 NEW JETS WITH ROOM FOR 76 PASSENGERS
EACH. HALF WILL BE BOMBARDIER C-R-J-900S, AND HALF WILL BE EMBRAER E-M-B-175S FLOWN BY ITS NEW COMPASS SUBSIDIARY. BOTH
JETS INCLUDE A DOZEN FIRST-CLASS SEATS, AND THE CABIN IS ROOMIER
THAN ON NORTHWEST'S OTHER REGIONAL JETS.
NORTHWEST PLANS TO USE THE NEW 76-SEAT JETS IN MARKETS TOO SMALL
FOR A D-C-9 AND TOO LARGE FOR A 50-SEAT C-R-J-200.
NORTHWEST, MICHIGAN'S PRIMARY PASSENGER CARRIER, EMERGED FROM
BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION LAST WEEK.
