MERCURY SPILL
in a mercury spill that prompted officials to close Marquette
Senior High School for two days.
Police did not identify the boy. He was charged in juvenile
court with knowingly releasing a hazardous substance.
The Marquette County prosecutor's office would not release
further details today.
Police say the youth brought a jar containing 2 to 3 ounces of
the toxic metal to school last month. They say mercury was found in
two places at the school ... and some reportedly was spilled on a
student.
Classes were canceled for two days while the city fire
department and an environmental consulting company cleaned up the
mercury.
