SAME SEX BENEFITS USA (wgvu) - KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Kalamazoo says it will stop offering
health insurance benefits to the partners of gay workers.
That makes it Michigan's first public employer to strip such
benefits in the wake of a 2004 ban against gay marriage.
Kalamazoo's city manager says the city will eliminate domestic
partner benefits for four non-unionized employees effective June
30th.
The Michigan Supreme Court last month agreed to review a state
Court of Appeals decision blocking same-sex benefits but let it
take effect in the meantime.
