ABORTION LAW` USA (wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A federal appeals court has overturned
Michigan's law banning a certain abortion procedure.
The Sixth U-S Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati said today
that the Michigan law violates women's constitutional rights.
It agreed with a Detroit district judge's opinion that
Michigan's Legal Birth Definition Act places an "undue burden" on
a woman's right to choose an abortion.
The appeals court says Michigan lawmakers would have been on
safer ground if they'd copied an Ohio anti-abortion law that's been
upheld by the U-S Supreme Court.
