DETROIT-WINDSOR TUNNEL

(wgvu) - THE PRIVATE COMPANY OPERATING THE DETROIT-WINDSOR
TUNNEL WANTS TO LEASE IT FOR ANOTHER 60 YEARS. THE CURRENT LEASE
EXPIRES IN 2020.
THE $60 MILLION DOLLAR BID IS $2 MILLION MORE THAN A
PLAN BY MAYOR KWAME KILPATRICK TO LEASE DETROIT'S PORTION OF THE
BORDER CROSSING.
THE CITY COUNCIL IS REVIEWING THE OFFER RECEIVED FROM DETROIT
WINDSOR TUNNEL L-L-C. THE PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM OPERATES THE TUNNEL
FOR ALINDA CAPITAL PARTNERS.
THE CITY HAS UNTIL JUNE 22ND TO ACCEPT THE DEAL.
CANADIAN OFFICIALS HAVE SAID THEY PREFER THE TUNNEL BE
CONTROLLED BY A PUBLIC AUTHORITY.
