(wgvu) - MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY TODAY
RECEIVED $6 MILLION DOLLARS FOR A NEW ART MUSEUM FROM ONE OF ITS
WEALTHIER ALUMS, PHILANTHROPIST ELI BROAD (BROHD).
IT IS THE LARGEST INDIVIDUAL CASH GIFT IN THE UNIVERSITY'S
HISTORY.
BROAD IS A LONG-TIME MICHIGAN STATE BENEFACTOR. HE ENDOWED THE
UNIVERSITY'S BUSINESS COLLEGE IN THE 1990S.
MICHIGAN STATE SAYS THE NEW MUSEUM WILL BE WORLD CLASS AND WILL
FOCUS ON MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART.
IT WILL BE NAMED THE ELI AND EDYTHE BROAD ART MUSEUM PENDING
APPROVAL FROM THE UNIVERSITY'S GOVERNING BOARD.
THE TOTAL PROJECT COST FOR THE NEW MUSEUM IS ABOUT 30 MILLION
DOLLARS.
GROUNDBREAKING IS EXPECTED IN 2008.
