CHILDREN'S HEALTH
(2007-05-31)
(wgvu) - U-S SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW SUPPORTS A
FIVE-YEAR, $75 BILLION DOLLAR EXPANSION OF THE STATE CHILDREN'S
HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM.
THE PROGRAM PROVIDES HEALTH COVERAGE FOR CHILDREN OF THE WORKING
POOR.
IN MICHIGAN, M-I-CHILD COVERED MORE THAN 118,000 CHILDREN
LAST YEAR AND ASSISTED 100,000 HOUSAND ADULTS.
BUT STATE OFFICIALS SAY MORE THAN 170,000 MICHIGAN CHILDREN
DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE.
STABENOW SAYS EXPANDING THE PROGRAM COULD REDUCE THE NUMBER OF
PEOPLE WHO LACK COVERAGE. THE MICHIGAN DEMOCRAT SAYS IT COULD BE
THE FIRST STEP TOWARD PROVIDING HEALTH CARE TO EVERY U-S CITIZEN.
