THERE'S AN INFORMAL SHRINE IN QUARGHULI
IRAQ, TO SIX DEAD SOLDIERS AND TWO WHO REMAIN
MISSING.
SERGEANT CURTIS DORR MADE IT FROM SOME SHEETS OF PLYWOOD AND A
COUPLE OF TWO-BY-FOURS.
HE DID IT IN HONOR OF THOSE KILLED OR CAPTURED IN THE MAY 12TH
AMBUSH BY IRAQI INSURGENTS.
THE ATTACK LEFT ONE IRAQI SOLDIER AND FIVE AMERICANS DEAD,
INCLUDING 19-YEAR-OLD PRIVATE FIRST CLASS DANIEL COURNEYA
OF VERMONTVILLE, MICHIGAN.
THE INSURGENTS CAPTURED TWO OTHER AMERICANS, INCLUDING
19-YEAR-OLD BYRON FOUTY OF WATERFORD, MICHIGAN.
THE AMERICANS WERE PART OF AN ARMY UNIT BASED AT FORT DRUM, NEW
YORK.
