DOW CHEMICAL PROBE USA (wgvu) - WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal regulators are investigating whether
two former executives at Dow Chemical secretly tried to make the
Midland-based company a takeover target.
The Securities and Exchange Commission also is looking into
whether unusual trading in Dow stock may have been linked to such
maneuvers.
Regulators may examine a deal that Dow pursued with The DuPont
Company. Dow put a bid in last fall to buy the rival chemical giant
for more than 40 (b) billion dollars.
Dow fired the two executives in April saying they had
unauthorized talks about a buyout.
Both have denied involvement in a takeover and have sued Dow for
defamation.
