RED WINGS-DUCKS
(2007-05-23)
(wgvu) - THE RED WINGS' BID FOR THE STANLEY CUP IS
OVER.
DETROIT SPOTTED ANAHEIM A 3-0 LEAD LAST NIGHT, THEN
SCORED THREE TIMES IN THE FINAL PERIOD. BUT IT WASN'T ENOUGH AS THE
DUCKS HELD ON FOR A 4-TO-3 VICTORY.
SAMUEL PAHLSSON'S GOAL WITH 14:06 REMAINING PROVED TO BE THE
DIFFERENCE FOR ANAHEIM. THE DUCKS WON THE SERIES IN SIX GAMES AND
WILL MEET OTTAWA IN THE STANLEY CUP FINALS.
THE RED WINGS OUTSHOT ANAHEIM 16-TO-3 IN THE THIRD PERIOD. THEY
GOT ONE GOAL FROM HENRIK ZETTERBERG AND TWO FROM PAVEL DATSYUK, THE
LAST WITH 3:04 REMAINING.
THE DUCKS' ONLY OTHER STANLEY CUP FINALS APPEARANCE WAS IN 2003.
THEIR COACH WAS MIKE BABCOCK, WHO NOW COACHES THE RED WINGS.
