(2007-05-23)
(wgvu) - A WILDCAT STRIKE BY DETROIT BUS DRIVERS HAS ABOUT 120,000 THOUSAND RIDERS SEEKING ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION.
DRIVERS ARE PROTESTING LACK OF SECURITY ON BUSES. SOME SAY THEY
HAVE BEEN PHYSICALLY AND VERBALLY ASSAULTED ON THEIR BUSES.
UNION OFFICIALS SAY MEMBERS ARE WAITING FOR A CITY COUNCIL VOTE
LATER TODAY TO PUT SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES ON BUSES BEFORE ENDING THE
WALKOUT.
THE MAYOR'S OFFICE SAYS IT UNDERSTANDS THE UNION'S CONCERN, BUT
DOESN'T AGREE WITH ITS TACTICS. THE CITY IS WORKING TO RESTORE
SERVICE.
