A SOLDIER WHO GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN
GLADWIN AND WAS JUST THREE MONTHS INTO HIS TOUR IN IRAQ WAS KILLED
WHEN AN IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE DETONATED NEAR HIS VEHICLE.
THE DEFENSE DEPARTMENT SAYS ARMY SPECIALIST ROBERT DIXON DIED
SUNDAY IN BAGHDAD. HE WAS ASSIGNED TO THE 1ST SQUADRON, 4TH CAVALRY
REGIMENT, 4TH BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM, 1ST INFANTRY DIVISION AT FORT
RILEY, KANSAS.
DIXON WAS BORN IN PORTLAND, OREGON, BUT MOVED TO GLADWIN IN 1992
WITH HIS LEGAL GUARDIANS, IRENE AND DANIEL DIXON.
THE 27-YEAR-OLD WAS A MEMBER OF THE GLADWIN HIGH FOOTBALL, TRACK
AND WRESTLING TEAMS. HE ATTENDED OLIVET COLLEGE FOR A YEAR AND
BRIEFLY STUDIED AT NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY BEFORE MOVING TO
MINNEAPOLIS, WHERE HE ENLISTED.
