US MUSLIMS
(2007-05-08)
(wgvu) -
DETROIT (AP) - Regional Islamic leaders are expected to sign an
agreement this week to strengthen ties between the faith's two
major sects.
Sunnis and Shiites in the U-S are wary of a spillover effect
from the sectarian violence in Iraq.
About 20 leaders plan to sign the one-page "Intra-faith Code of
Conduct" during a meeting on Thursday in suburban Detroit.
Islamic leaders in Southern California recently signed a similar
code. Muslims in Washington also plan to sign a version of the
agreement.
