OBAMA AUTO INDUSTRY
says a change in U-S energy policy will help domestic automakers
shift into a high gear and compete better globally.
The Illinois senator spoke today in front of more than
two-thousand people at the Detroit Economic Club.
He says foreign automakers have invested in fuel-efficient
technology at breakneck speeds, while their domestic counterparts
have stood idle.
His plan would encourage production of hybrid vehicles and offer
U-S automakers health care assistance for retirees. Automakers
would be required to invest half of their savings toward production
of fuel-efficient vehicles.
